The Painter

This is a painting I thought about while I was roaming art museums in Europe. When I got home I kept the hair and beard and dressed as all the painters of old. It is hard to see but the background is a corkboard with a lot of postcards of the painting I was there to study. Great trips lead to good paintings. 30"x 40" oil on canvas.

I really like this self-portrait, especially the pose with the hand on the mahl stick right up in front and the direct gaze at the viewer. It does have that feel of an artist from the past.
